YouTube Empowers Creators with AI Control

YouTube empowers creators to control how their videos train AI models and protect their content.

YouTube Gives Creators Control Over AI Training Data

YouTube announced a new update on Monday. This update empowers content creators with greater control. They can now decide how their videos are used to train artificial intelligence (AI) models. This move follows the platform’s recent introduction of tools to combat deepfakes that mimic creators’ voices and appearances.

The new option allows creators to explicitly decide access policies for their videos. Creators can determine if third-party AI companies can use their videos for training large language models (LLMs). Creators will have the flexibility to grant permission to specific AI firms while denying access to others.

This development comes as AI companies are increasingly seeking large datasets to train their sophisticated models. With readily available public data becoming scarce, many are turning to other sources, including copyrighted content.

While some companies have explored content partnerships, these arrangements can be costly. Another alternative is synthetic data generated by AI models. However, it presents potential risks of low quality. These risks could hinder the development of more advanced AI.

YouTube’s move is a significant step. It gives creators more agency in how their work is utilized in the evolving AI landscape. It allows them to directly influence the development of AI technologies while protecting their intellectual property and creative interests.
