Apple Nears Decision on Foldable iPhone Display Supplier, Launch Expected Next Year
Rumors surrounding Apple’s entry into the foldable phone market have been circulating for years. Now, a new leak suggests the company is nearing a crucial milestone. A report from the South Korean blog Naver cites a source within Apple’s supply chain. The tech giant is expected to finalize its primary contractor for the foldable display in the coming weeks.
“Apple has not yet decided on its final key supplier,” the source stated. However, the industry expects a decision by late February to early April. The report indicates that Apple is imposing stringent technical requirements on potential suppliers. These requirements particularly focus on the thickness and hardness of the display. Several domestic component manufacturers are reportedly making significant progress in meeting these demands.
This news comes amidst a flurry of recent leaks and reports about the anticipated foldable iPhone. Apple has been actively filing patents and testing various foldable designs, further fueling speculation about the device’s eventual arrival. A previous report suggested that production of the foldable iPhone would begin in May of next year. Rumors point to a “book-style” foldable design. This design is similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series. It features a smaller external display and a larger, foldable internal screen.
The Naver report reinforces the rumored September 2024 launch timeframe for the foldable iPhone. It may potentially launch alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. Apple is reportedly aiming for an initial yearly production of 15-20 million units for its first foldable handset. Apple has not commented on its plans. However, these latest leaks suggest that the foldable iPhone may finally be on the horizon.
