Intel Xeon 6700 & 6500: Boosting Data Center Performance

Intel launched Xeon 6700 and 6500 processors, enhancing performance and power efficiency for data centers.

Intel Unveils Powerful Xeon 6700 and 6500 Series Processors for Data Centers

Intel has announced the launch of its latest Xeon 6 family processors. These include the Intel Xeon 6700 and Xeon 6500 series. They are designed to provide improved performance and power efficiency for data centers ¹. These new processors are based on the x86 computer architecture. They come with up to 86 cores. This makes them ideal for complex artificial intelligence (AI) tasks, traditional enterprise apps, and high-performance computing (HPC) solutions.

Key Features and Enhancements

  • Improved Performance: The Intel Xeon 6700 and 6500 series processors offer 1.4X higher performance compared to the fifth generation of Intel Xeon processors.
  • Enhanced Power Efficiency: The new processors provide improved performance-per-watt efficiency, allowing for 5:1 consolidation of a five-year-old server on average.
  • Dedicated Performance Cores (P-cores): The Xeon 6700 and 6500 series processors feature dedicated P-cores. These cores enable them to handle a more diverse set of workloads.
  • AI Inference: Compared to the fifth-generation AMD EPYC processors, the Xeon 6700 and 6500 series chipsets offer up to 1.5X better performance in AI inference while using only two-thirds of the cores ¹.

Technical Specifications

  • Up to 86 Cores: The new processors come with up to 86 cores, providing a significant boost in processing power.
  • Thermal Design Power (TDP): The TDP of the new processors ranges from 150 to 300W ¹.
  • Memory and Connectivity: The processors support up to eight channels of DDR5 MRDIMM memory. They provide up to 88 lanes for PCIe 5.0, and 64 lanes CXL 2.0 ¹.

Intel Xeon 6 for Network and Edge

Intel unveiled the Xeon 6 for network and edge in addition to the Xeon 6700 and 6500 series processors. This system-on-chip (SoC) is designed for high performance. It also offers power efficiency. This SoC delivers a 70 percent improvement in performance-per-watt with 2.4X the RAN capacity compared to the previous generation.
