WhatsApp Tests Motion Photos Feature for Android Users
WhatsApp is testing a new feature. It allows users to send motion photos. These photos capture audio and movement before and after a shot is taken. This feature was spotted in the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, version 2.25.22.29.
How Motion Photos Work on WhatsApp
- Capturing Motion: Motion photos capture a few seconds of video and audio around a photo. This is similar to Apple’s Live Photos and Samsung’s Motion Photos.
- Sending Motion Photos: Users can select images from their gallery. They can send them as motion photos using a new icon with a play button.
- Audio Support: Motion photos will include audio, adding another layer of realism to captured moments.
Key Features and Benefits
- Richer Storytelling: Perfect for capturing moments where emotion and movement matter.
- Better Memory Preservation: Keeps those “in-between” moments that static images miss.
- Enhanced Communication: Adds personality to conversations without needing full-length videos.
Availability and Device Compatibility
- Beta Testers: Currently available to select beta testers, with a rollout expected to more users over the coming weeks.
- Device Support: Only available on devices that support motion photos, such as Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel phones.
- Viewing Motion Photos: Users without motion photo capability can still view motion photos sent by others
