Ubisoft Launches Vantage Studios to Lead Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six
Ubisoft has launched a new subsidiary to manage its three biggest franchises. The new “creative house” is called Vantage Studios.
Vantage Studios Launched
Ubisoft announced the launch on Wednesday. The studio will oversee Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. The company said Vantage will focus on development and expansion of these brands. It will share services and technical resources while giving developers more control.
Leadership and Teams
Vantage Studios will be led by co-CEOs Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot. Derennes co-founded Ubisoft Montreal in 1997 and was managing director for North America. Guillemot, son of Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, previously worked at Owlient, a Ubisoft-owned studio.
Teams from Montréal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia will be part of Vantage. Ubisoft also plans to create more creative houses to streamline development across franchises.
Tencent Investment
The unit was first announced in March, days after the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. It is backed by a €1.16 billion investment from Tencent, which holds a 25% stake. Despite the investment, Ubisoft retains full control of Vantage.
Ubisoft’s Strategy Shift
The move comes after a tough 2024 for Ubisoft. The company’s share price fell 40% following several underperforming releases. Ubisoft has since closed studios, laid off staff, and cancelled projects. Vantage Studios is seen as a step to refocus on its most profitable franchises.
Conclusion
Ubisoft’s launch of Vantage Studios marks a major restructuring. With Tencent’s backing, the new unit will drive the future of Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six. They have experienced leadership. The company hopes this move will restore momentum after a challenging year.
