Perplexity’s Comet Browser Hits Android
Perplexity, the San‑Francisco AI startup, has released its Comet browser on the Google Play Store . The app was listed in September but only for pre‑registration. After more than two months, the full launch is now live.
Anyone who pre‑registered will see the app automatically installed . New users can search “Comet” on the Play Store and download it manually.
The Android version brings most of the desktop features to a phone . It includes the AI assistant, voice mode, and an ad blocker.
The AI assistant sits at the bottom of the screen . The URL bar and toolbar are also anchored at the bottom, unlike the top placement on desktop.
Tapping the assistant opens a full‑screen pop‑up . The web page behind is hidden while the assistant is active. Swiping down closes the window without losing session history.
The assistant can answer simple queries about a page . It can also launch AI agents for complex tasks, such as finding the cheapest Samsung Galaxy S25 .
When the agent browses, users see a screenshot of each new page . Granting the assistant permission to browse is required to activate this view.
Comet is free to download . Free tier users get a limited rate of AI assistant queries. Pro and Max subscribers enjoy higher limits and extra capabilities.
Perplexity claims Comet is the first full‑featured AI browser on Android . Competitors like OpenAI’s ChatGPT Atlas and The Browser Company’s Dia are still desktop‑only.
The company says an iOS version is coming soon. Future updates may add a password manager and deeper system integration.
