UIDAI rolls out mobile‑number update in new Aadhaar app
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced a new feature for its recently launched Aadhaar app on Friday . The app hit the Android Play Store and iOS App Store on November 9 .
From now on, users will be able to update the mobile number linked to their Aadhaar. This can be done without visiting a service centre. The update will require a one‑time password (OTP) sent to the new number and a face‑authentication step .
UIDAI said the change will transform the app from a simple digital‑identity viewer. It will become a tool that also lets users modify their own data. The authority asked early adopters to try the feature and send feedback to feedback.app@uidai.net.in .
The new app already lets users add up to five Aadhaar profiles. It allows them to lock biometric data as well. Users can share QR codes and verifiable credentials. They can also scan QR codes for Aadhaar services.
UIDAI stressed that the new app does not replace the existing mAadhaar application .
The feature is currently being tested and will be rolled out to all users after improvements
