Instagram Now Allows Users to Edit Comments
Instagram has rolled out a new feature that lets users edit their comments. The company announced the update on Friday. This change fixes a long-standing limitation on the popular social media platform.
The feature is now available globally. Users can edit their comments within 15 minutes after posting. They can make multiple changes if needed. Instagram has not set any limit on the number of edits.
How to Edit a Comment
To edit a comment, users simply tap the new “Edit” option that appears below their published comment. A pop-up window then opens, allowing them to modify the text. After making changes, they can save the updated version easily.
However, some limitations exist. Users can only edit the text part of a comment. If the comment also contains an image, they cannot change or remove the image.
Additionally, Instagram adds a small grey “Edited” label to the comment. This label shows that the user has made changes. The platform does not show version history. Other users cannot see the original text once the comment is edited.
A Long-Awaited Feature
Instagram has allowed users to edit post captions since 2014. Yet, comment editing remained unavailable for more than ten years. Many users had requested this feature for a long time.
In comparison, X (formerly Twitter) started testing editable posts and comments in 2022. However, access depends on subscription plans. Meanwhile, Threads, Instagram’s text-focused app, already permits users to edit posts within a short time window.
Why This Update Matters
The new comment editing feature makes communication smoother on Instagram. Users can now quickly fix typos, improve wording, or clarify their thoughts without deleting and reposting comments.
This update improves the overall user experience on the platform. It brings Instagram closer to other major social media apps in terms of flexibility.
The feature is rolling out to all users worldwide. Instagram users can start enjoying the ability to edit comments right away.
