Nothing Rolls Out Stable Nothing OS 5.0 Based on Android 17
Nothing on Monday began the stable rollout of Nothing OS 5.0. The update is built on Android 17. It brings a redesigned Home Screen, a new Lock Screen clock face, and further upgrades to Essential Space. Updated system animations, new widgets, improved multitasking, and AI-powered app creation tools also arrive with the release. Many of these features first appeared in the open beta.
Availability
The stable version has started reaching the Nothing Phone (3). The company plans to expand the update to more Nothing and CMF smartphones over the coming months. Other eligible handsets are scheduled to receive the stable release in November. This general rollout follows the earlier open beta programme, which previewed the major software changes.
Key Features
Nothing OS 5.0 introduces several interface and performance updates. On the Home Screen, widgets and the search bar now include transparent details. A new adaptive colour system pulls tones from the user’s wallpaper. As a result, the overall interface gains a more consistent look.
The Lock Screen gains a new Micrographics clock face. Inspired by hardware design, it displays the date, time, weather, and upcoming meetings in one view.
Essential Space, the company’s AI-powered hub, will receive further improvements through Google Play alongside the general release. The AI suite continues to expand. Essential Voice now offers faster and cleaner transcription. Smart Collections help organise content. Essential Apps Builder can also be accessed directly on the phone.
The update refreshes icons, spacing, and animations across the status bar, Settings, Camera, and Gallery. On the personalisation side, users gain new widgets. The Collector widget lets people create visual collections of objects. Away Time tracks screen-free periods.
Performance improvements are included as well. Nothing says the update delivers faster touch response, better background app retention, and improved system resource management. Animations for apps, folders, widgets, and multitasking have also been refined.
Overall, Nothing OS 5.0 aims to deliver a cleaner interface, stronger AI tools, and smoother everyday performance for eligible devices.
