BGMI Lite Renamed BGMI Air as Pre-Registrations Cross 10 million
Battlegrounds Mobile India ranks among the most popular online battle royale games in the country. It has crossed 10 crore downloads. Krafton is preparing a lighter version to reach more devices. The title, first announced as BGMI Lite, has received a new name. Anticipation continues to build ahead of its launch later this year.
Krafton India confirmed the change in a press note. BGMI Lite will now be known as BGMI Air. The company made no other changes from its earlier plans. The game still aims to deliver the core BGMI experience through a smaller download and easier access.
The developer also reported a major milestone. BGMI Air has crossed 10 million pre-registrations ahead of its planned India launch later in 2026. An open beta will arrive shortly. The beta will collect player feedback to refine the game before the full release. A specific launch date remains unconfirmed. The title is still scheduled for India later this year.
Pre-registrations opened for Android users in India on August 25 through the Google Play Store. The initial download size is around 1GB. Krafton said players can start their first match without forced packages. In contrast, the standard BGMI file size can reach 8GB with added packages.
Existing BGMI players will access BGMI Air as a separate game. They will not need to transfer their current accounts. Krafton designed the lighter version to make the franchise more accessible regardless of device storage limits.
Despite the earlier “Lite” name, Krafton has stressed that the experience will not feel limited. The developer first confirmed work on BGMI Lite in August. It described the project as part of a wider effort to expand the BGMI universe in India.
