MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display Posts Strong Geekbench Scores

Apple recently launched its latest MacBook Pro lineup in two versions. The standard model offers a mini-LED display and comes with an M6, M5 Pro, or M5 Max chip. The higher-end version features a PROLED XDR display. This model supports the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips and uses a tandem OLED panel that enables touch interactions.

A MacBook Pro with the PROLED XDR display has now appeared on Geekbench. Tipster Abhishek Yadav shared the details in a post on X. The system carried the identifier “Mac17,12.” It ran an 18-core Apple M5 Pro chip with 48GB of RAM. The machine used macOS 27.2, also known as Golden Gate, and completed tests on Geekbench version 7.

The results look strong. The laptop scored 3,740 in single-core performance and 34,385 in multi-core performance. These figures highlight the capabilities of the new M5 Pro chip in the touch-enabled model.

Apple positions the new MacBook Pro models for professional users rather than casual buyers. The company targets scientists, engineers, software developers, and creative professionals. Apple also states that the M5 Max chip delivers even higher performance. It claims the chip can handle on-device large language models, 3D animation work, and 8K post-production tasks.

Meanwhile, reports suggest Apple may phase out non-touch MacBook Pro models next year. This change could arrive with the second-generation touchscreen versions powered by M7 Pro and M7 Max chips. Apple is also said to be developing a 14-inch MacBook Pro with an M7 chip. That model is expected to feature a thinner and lighter design with slimmer display borders.

An Apple executive previously told Bloomberg that the company is taking a gradual approach to adding touchscreen features. The current macOS 27 release offers basic touch interactions on supported models. Users can expect expanded touch capabilities with macOS 28 next year.

The Geekbench listing provides an early look at the PROLED XDR MacBook Pro’s performance. As more units reach users, additional real-world results should clarify how the tandem OLED and M5-series chips perform in professional workloads.
