Vi Adds Free International Roaming on Select Plans
Vodafone Idea has rolled out a new roaming benefit in India. Eligible prepaid, postpaid, and enterprise customers can use it. The offer covers more than 170 countries. Users do not need a separate roaming pack or a local SIM for those trips.
The benefit sits inside selected plans. It is not a stand-alone add-on for every account. Individual, family, and business plans can qualify. Postpaid plans start at Rs. 501. Annual prepaid unlimited data plans are also included. Enterprise customers can use corporate plans from Rs. 451.
Activation happens in the Vi app. Customers pick the relevant Roam-Free option. After that, they keep their existing Vi number abroad. That helps with calls and with OTPs from Indian services.
Travel limits still apply. Eligible users can use the benefit on up to three trips a year. Data quotas and outgoing calling minutes change by plan. Vi says annual savings can reach Rs. 9,000. Exact value depends on the chosen pack.
Chief Marketing Officer Avneesh Khosla framed the pitch around cost and convenience. He said roaming usually means an extra pack, a local SIM, or a travel eSIM. Vi now wants that access built into key plans.
The company presents this as a simpler alternative to last-minute roaming purchases. Customers should still check country coverage and remaining trip limits before they fly. Plan rules will decide the final allowance.
