WhatsApp is testing new chat theme categories on Android. The trial is limited to some beta users. It aims to give conversations a more custom look.
A report from WABetaInfo says the options are reaching testers on Android version 2.26.37.6. The layout follows a theme structure already seen on iOS. The rollout is gradual. Therefore, not every beta tester will see it at once. A few stable-app users may get it early. WhatsApp has not set a public date for everyone.
The picker is said to hold five theme groups. Nature, Live, Minimal, and Doodle are among them. A Featured row may sit on top and highlight designs from the other groups. Nature could show forests, mountains, deserts, and coasts. Minimal may keep the background simple. Doodle is expected to use the familiar pattern. Live may add slow-moving animated scenes.
Wallpapers may sit in a separate menu. Users could then change a background without applying a full theme. That wallpaper list may reuse the same categories. Vibrant and Gradient options may appear as well. People may also pick a photo from the gallery. AI-made wallpapers are another rumoured choice.
Live content could show up in both menus. Animated wallpapers would move slowly. A badge on the thumbnail may mark them as live rather than still.
Bubble colour may follow the theme and wallpaper. The app could pick a shade that keeps text readable. Users may still change that colour by hand.
These details remain in testing. Names, artwork, and timing can still change before a wider Android release.
